Some should get out and stay out... news and office

We noticed a trend this month on local reporters going bye-bye.  Recently Rhonda Reed Slaughter announces the end to her web site at the Number Crunchers.  This is a shame, as she did a world of justice exposing the numbers of wrong doings within our community and fought a hard battle.  She will be missed.  We hope she will submit articles to us!

However, we are happy to see reporters Brian and Shannon with the Bolingbrook Patch disappeared, replaced by soft news and nothing political hard core. 

No worries to our fans though... We will not be going away, so hang tight and watch us continue to grow as the competition diminishes...

Roger Claar, the Mayor of Bolingbrook had posted on his profile that he was involved in MSC Consulting.  We were wondering what that was and started looking into this consulting company. 

It sparked our interest because it was alleged many years ago the FEDS asked him to close his consulting firm due to a conflict of interest of owning a consulting company and being the Mayor.  We can assume that he was doing business with both which sparked the conflict. 

Now we see he is involved in yet another, consulting firm.  The firm, under Tom Mahoney, does state that they took grants and contracts for playgrounds in Tinley Park.  So where is this going?  We don't know, but Rog, keep grinning, because we are on it!

H2O and Lindsey Claar-Smith

It has been alleged this week that Lindsay has NO intention of returning to H2O, yet she continues to collect a salary on this organization.  The information we were supplied was that her organization receives free rent at the Bolingbrook Community Center, (paid for by taxpayers). 

She graduated in May of 2011 in California.  Then she got married and is established in California. 

So, should this woman be taking donations from the Village, Township, Library, and other taxing bodies if that money goes to her salary, of which she is not present to conduct business?  This is not an IT business that can be done remotely.  This is a business that is helping youths of the community.

How many youths has been called into question int he past year, as some say we donate thousands of tax dollars to support and assist a very small group of kids (under 10).  So is this organization really just a place for kids to hang out?  Is it existing just for her to get a salary because of whom her daddy is?  We would like to hear from her on when she is planning to return and do her job, or when she will release her salary to the organization and it's helpers/ facility costs.

"Dan Droogan is the son of Terry and Charlotte Droogan. They go back to Bolingbrook's origins in the early 1960s as a couple of small subdivisions cut out of cornfields. Terry was an early village trustee and was fire chief from 1967 to 1993, when he retired from the department and staged a failed run against Claar for mayor. Charlotte taught third grade in a Bolingbrook public school for 30 years. Shortly after she retired, she ran unsuccessfully for a village trustee seat in hopes of becoming an opposing voice on what she believed was a rubber-stamp board.

To talk to these three Droogans is to hear three levels and two generations of dissent. Charlotte complains that while chasing his "grandiose ideas" to build Bolingbrook into an upscale suburb, Claar has neglected older, middle-class neighborhoods like hers, on the city's east side. She says she's been lobbying for many years to get sidewalks in her part of town for the safety of children walking to school.
Terry, who is divorced from Charlotte and now lives in Tennessee, questions how much Claar had to do with Bolingbrook's growth. With a population explosion all over western Will County and the confluence of highways at Bolingbrook—I-355, I-55, and Illinois Route 53—the village would have grown exponentially "if Donald Duck was mayor," Droogan says. (Chicago political expert and one-time Will County resident Paul Green echoes the sentiment, saying that Claar has been more the beneficiary than the cause of a "demographic miracle" that's happening in Will County, the fastest-growing county in Illinois.)
Dan Droogan is in his mid-40s, and perhaps because he is part of the political system in the area, he's less quick to criticize Claar, who has beaten the DuPage Township Democrats every time they have run someone against him. "I learned about politics from Claar," Dan Droogan acknowledges. "He's so good. Even though [the DuPage Democrats] are getting beat up, [Claar] is forcing me to get better."

If the Droogans' critiques of Claar are divergent, Claar's response to the Droogans is not. "They're fucking nuts," he said when I said I might quote them in an article. He threw a copy of Chicago magazine onto the office floor and declared an abrupt end to the interview. "

The article goes on about Roger's lavish lifestyle of the Mayor of Bolingbrook and is filled with much emotion.  But what will all this lead up to?  Many of us are wondering if Dan Droogan, former head of DuPage Democrats, will finally join the race for Roger's position.  Sitting in the shadows for far too long, being called "fucking nuts" by a man he watched for years, and being removed from the Democrats leadership position might give Dan the edge he needs to run a race that is not only successful but exciting. 

"He has an anger driving him now, that he did not have before" one woman informed us.  He use to be the guy on the sidelines.  Now, with proper funding and support, will he take that anger and lash out?  Will he fight back and take his Droogan name back to Bolingbrook like his father did at that age?  Is it the turning point time for the Droogans to stop falling behind in the race and finally win? 

He has his advantages.  First, he knows all the dirty ballot games the Republicans play.  Second, he is not tied down to the Democrats anymore, which means he is not relying on a group of people that took last place with their candidate in the last election.  Now he is free to jump on the Independent band wagon, which took the next top spots in the last local election.  That group has money, resources, people, and drive.  They have supporters locally that the Democrats do not. 

The question remains, does Dan become the one in his family to finally do it?  To show everyone that Roger's comments that his family is "fucking nuts" was only made because he opposed the Mayor and rejected some of the Mayor's decisions?  We will touch back with a statement from Dan, if he chooses to send in one!

Today we celebrate our 500,000 hits!

To many, running a successful web site is dictated by number the of hits from your audience.  When we first started the web site, we did not think many people would be interested in local political news and chatter, however we have become a fast growing, overly opinionated, watchdog group for the local residents of approx. 70,000.  Given those small numbers, which include children and people without Internet access, we are surprised that less than three years later we have over 500,000 hits! 

Maybe it is because we speak for the people, and those views are different than how our administration is running things. Maybe it is because we don't fear political points of view.  Maybe it is because we are so controversial and point out what people really want to know.  Regardless of the fact of why people come to our site (to rebut our articles or to enjoy them), we are grateful for the audience, the number of hits we get, and the fact that people are involved, people are listening, and people are talking.  That is what really matters!

As Jay always says (Jay is the editor in chief), "Even those that bash the Bolingbrook Report do us justice.  When they try to deny a story, it causes people to talk, read, and listen.  That helps our cause at a unified Bolingbrook that can come together for a common cause". 

The cause is, and has always been, since Bonnie first ran for office, a "Better Bolingbrook". If we can stop the corruption, make the community a better place, and reduce costs to the residents while increasing jobs, then we have served a great purpose.

Dan Droogan vs. Tom Braxton for Dupage 015 Precinct Committeeman

We find it ironic that these two would be battling it out for Precinct Committeemen in the same arena.  It is ironic because Droogan held the position of DuPage Township Democrat Chair and was replaced by Tom Braxton just a little over a year ago.  Now the races heat up to determine if this was the right choice.  The Democrats supported the move to change leaders, but do the people that reside in this area?  Is this battle personal or is it just political with no agenda?  It will be fun to watch!

Election Information

Election day for the Primary is March 20th.  The last day to register to vote is February 21.  Early voting begins at Village Hall on February 27-March 15. 

Election for Will County Reps... and a little supriise

Did anyone notice on the upcoming election in March that there is a referendum in Bolingbrook? 
So what does this mean to us?  Well, the Village has been conducting a hostile takeover of the water, and now it wants to "work deals" for electric which we are ALREADY getting.  What this means to home owners is that you will be approving tax payer dollars to go to this cause and unlimited bonds to be spent.

I mean sure, it is great we might save $5 a household per month on electric.  But don't be blind, because it will probably add hundreds of dollars to your homeowners taxes annually to pay for the bonds or funds this venture took. Not only will it raise bonds, but whom will run it?  More politically connected morons who cannot run the businesses and departments that we already have?  It was not that long ago that Public Works lost over $600K to theft of employees.  It is every year for 10 years that we have lost money on the Golf Course poorly operated venture.  Don't even get me started on how much we have lost for the Americana Estates venture.

So in the long run, nobody in the Village has expressed what this will cost or save residents.  We want to know... how much will it save us annually on electric and how much will our Village bond debt go up, causing property and sales taxes to rise?  WE want the bottom line, will we benefit from this or be hurt by it.  So if that is such a simple question, how come we have gotten NO ANSWERS to this? 
Let's talk for a second how it is being held on the least attended election cycle in Bolingbrook.  The Mayor gets his 2,000 people to come vote and nobody else shows up.  Is this even a surprise anymore?

When you can answer the question about benefits to the residents, then maybe the smart people of Bolingbrook, will vote in your favor...

Thanks for the wait

We have been busy this month closing off our years end and prepping for this years election site.  We thank you for the patience.  That being said, we mark our three year anniversary today and want to say thank you to our loyal audience.

This year will be a fantastic year for us.  In October, election season kicks off for the Mayor's job and some trustee positions.  We are currently seeking the best candidates to sponsor during this time.  As many know, it takes time, money and energy to run an effective campaign.

We will be taking a few more weeks to re-group and will be back in time for the annual budget revealing.  (If something major happens before then, we will cover it, no worries!)  We are anxious to see whose job gets cut and who gets raises.  We are excited to see which pet charities and businesses will get your funds.  Stay tuned for another year of exciting political reporting!
