A few months back we were following a story of a local resident who was falsely arrested and accused of theft at a local Meijer store. Her name was splashed in the media and her reputation falsely ruined.
She was arrested by a Bolingbrook Police Officer, even thought he police officer did not obtain any proof of why he was arresting her.
The issue has been resolved in courts as follows:
1. Meijers could not produce ANY video to show this lady shoplifted, even though they lied and told the officer they had this.
2. Meijer did not have any item taken from her paid cart that was not listed on her receipt.
3. The harassing male employees, that made her go to the bathroom with the door open and them present, did not appear in the courts.
4. Meijers never formally apologized to this person or others that this has happened to.
5. She was found not guilty, all counts dismissed, and Meijers will have to pay her legal fees.
This type of harassment in local stores must stop. Think twice before you use the self-scan options and demand someone that works there scans your purchases. It might save their company money to do self scan, but they are not doing you any favors in return.
