No evidence of tampering found after complaint at precinct
County officials were called this morning after a poll watcher at Bolingbrook Town Center took a photo of the inside of a ballot box, according to the Will County States Attorney’s Office.
The incident happened before polls opened. A poll watcher from a candidate’s campaign asked an election judge in Precinct 17 for a look inside the box to make sure no ballots had been cast before polls opened, said Chuck Pelkie, a spokesman for the state’s attorney’s office.
Pelkie said a state’s attorney was sent to the poll after receiving a call from County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots. The attorney determined there was “no evidence that the contents were tampered with or disturbed,” Pelkie said.
He said the election judge was admonished.
The call was one of more than 22 reports the state’s attorney’s office had received today of election violations, most of which included complaints that campaign signs were too close to polling sites.
