Do we Need Du Page Township?

Du Page Township is a typical line item on your property taxes.  Many people do not even pay attention to it and think it is a necessity.  However, many communities have cut out this government entity completely.  If we were to do the same, it would put an additional $2,266,665.00 back in the economy.  A whopping 94% of this money is from your property tax payments!  Take a look at what they do and you decide!
The breakdown costs are:
46% for administration and salaries (staffed with the good ol’ boy network and politically connected individuals)
14% to run the levy center (Which runs at a loss)
12% run the assessors division (this division is run well)
28% were misc. fees. Including donations to not for profit politically connected organizations, travel expenses, dinners, equipment, scholarships’, sponsoring sport events, social entertainment, and recreation trips.  Plus don’t forget the huge memorial garden they built with the money to honor Mr. Claar. They are also supposed to run the food pantry, Boardman Cemetery, and General Assistance.
What can be sold?
The Levy Center can be sold to a private banquet center.  The Cemetery can go back to the County or to the Village.  General assistance only gives names and numbers of people you can contact for help (you can do this through Google).  The food pantry can be run from local churches, the Village and others, like other communities do.
What does this leave?
Since you would no longer need the salaries, equipment, dinners, outings, free money to their own private organizations, and social entertainment costs… this would leave the assessor’s office.
The assessor’s office could run successfully under the Will County Tax Assessor and be paid for under county taxes.  This is $272,000.00 per year which is a cost savings to the residents of $1,994,665!  That savings is NO JOKE!
It is no wonder why many communities are eliminating this organization.
Should the residents vote on a referendum to eliminate this taxing body in the next election cycle and cut the taxes?  Let the residence weight in!
