This topic will kick start with the school board incumbents. The incumbents are running on a slate called "About Friends of Valley View". They are not getting strong support this election, as only three of the four members are re-running for office again. According to their web site, it claims:
What we have done:
1. Improved the quality of education in the district2. Good stewards of the taxpayers' money
3. Reduced spending by 22 million dollars
4. Freeze taxes in 2011
What it does NOT claim is:
1. The school test scores have NOT improved, therefore the first statement is incorrect.
2. If they had been good stewards of taxpayers money, they would have been able to reach a balanced budget and not cut from the most needy.
3. The reduced spending does not point out that they reduced it from the teachers and students, instead of the highly paid and abundance of administrators. We have already uncovered that Bolingbrook tops the number of highly paid administration in all the local communities. One example, just recently, is that Faith Dahlquist is leaving and they are staffing her position with TWO more people at high salaries.
4. The Fourth statement is that they have frozen taxes in 2011. What about the last three years they severely RAISED taxes. They froze it ONLY BECAUSE of the election just last week. In finality, they did not raise it, they prolonged the payments. Now you children will get to pay down there debt for years to come.
Then they get into what they will do:
What we will do:
1. Continue to improve the quality of education in the district - It can't go much lower!2. We will be good stewards of the taxpayers' money- What?
3. Upgrade/remodeling of Romeoville High School - They have no choice!
4. End Social Promotion - What--Why are they allowing it in the first place?
5. Increase Honors and College Prep courses - Won't this raise the taxes by hiring more personnel? See number 2.
6. Strengthening and fully fund the Challenge program -Won't this raise the taxes by hiring more personnel? See number 2.
7. Maintain current funding for sports and other co-curricular activities. Since they cut funding for this last year, this means they will not ADD back the sports they cut. This is not good.
How do you feel about these campaign promises? Do you have a problem with them? Do you think they are general and non-specific? Does it worry you that you are hearing one voice, not three? Who is controlling their statements? List your comments below.
I'm voting for April Gavin--she's has kids in the schools and is a real reformer who will be change for the better.
ReplyDeleteI will NOT be voting for Steven Quiqley. Any one who will not educate his own children in the school district can not run for the school board, let alone be its leader.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way I will support any of these candidates! Improve RHS? With what money WE ARE BROKE!!
ReplyDeleteI too support April Gavin. With kids in the districts, and a parent heavily involved in her kids's school, this is the person you want on the board.
ReplyDeleteMaintain funding for sports? at the expense of what? Classroom size?
They are STUDENT atheletes....with an emphasis on students.
I will not be voting for Quigley or Gougis. They are mean spirited, money hungry grubs. They raised taxes for three years, closed the Phoenix, and cut sports for the kids. I think their budgeting skills suck! Wht does Quigley care though, he sends his kidds to St. Doms...
ReplyDeleteI am supporting April Gavin as my number one AND ONLY choice for School Board.
ReplyDeleteRemember, voters, you only need to check ONE box!!!
